 History of Mambugan NHS

Antipolo National High School was the only public school established in the town of Anitipolo for so many years. Time had passed and people noticed the annual increase of population in the said school. This was the reason why the local government of antipolo decided to put up extension schools to every barangay. ANHS Mambugan is one of the extension, which has operated in 1999, accommodating the elementary graduates from Penafrancia Elementary School, Mambugan Elementary School and from those neighboring sitios and barangays such as PAGRAI Community Learning Center and Ruhat Hills Learning Center.

In the first year of operation, 256 students enrolled and temporally housed at Mambugan Elementary School building. The principal of Mambugan Elementary School lent three rooms. Two of these rooms were used as classrooms while the other one was used as the administration office, Faculty room, mini library and canteen. There were two shifts of classes then.

For the school year 2000-2001, the so-called “Free Education” of the honorable Mayor Angelito C. Gatlabayan was implemented resulting to the increased of population of students. The previous number of students had doubled. The bulk of the population however was noticeably from the province. With the increased number of students, same number of rooms were used thus difficulty increased in disciplining the students. At the later part of the year, the elementary school principal gave us another room, which at present used as administration and faculty room.

Great surprise came during the school year 2001-2002 because the student population has tripled its number. Classroom population during that year ranged to 175 students per room. Because of the number of students in a room was very huge, a three shift of classes has to be implemented to ease the difficulty that both the teachers and students were experiencing that year.

At the time the three shifts were not yet implemented it was amazing that enthusiasms both teachers and students were noticeable. No matter how difficult the situations were, teachers did their very best to teach the students considering that the school had not enough ventilations, chairs and tables. It was also that the students even without much comfort in their classroom continued their studies. What is important to them is having teachers to teach in front of hem daily.

It was January 2002 when at last, a woo storey building was constructed through the initiative of Hon. Mayor Angelito C. Gatlabayan and council. This helped us in reducing of the number of students per classroom. From 175 students per room, it was lessened to 65-70.

In the SY 2002-2003, Mambugan National High School became dependent from its mother school, which is the Antipolo Naional High School. However, we are still housed at Mabugan Elementary School Compound. This time we already had our fourth year Students who graduated last April. We were able o hold our first graduation rites with 215 graduates.

Last summer, another building was constructed again through the effort of the beloved mayor of Antipolo City, Hon. Mayor C. Gatlabayan. This time, said building was built at Siruna Village. It was a two storey building with four rooms. Three of the rooms are being used as classrooms while the other room is being used as the faculty room and at the same time a library.

We are optimistic that another building will be built this coming year. If this happens, all high school students will transfer from Mambugan Elementary School Compound to the site where we will be permanently housed.
